8th Regional MEXTESOL Morelia Chapter

Last weekend on April 18 and 19, 2008, I had the pleasure of meeting Brigitte Miller at MEXTESOL Morelia Chapter's 8th Regional Convention. I participated in her workshop, Fun and Games: Oral Fluency and Motivation. We had a blast! Thanks, Brigitte! Check out Brigitte's blog: Senior English Language Fellow's ELT Mexico Bulletin. Cathy Higham, Cambridge University Press, was her usual delightful self and full of tasty ELT stuff to share with all of us. I also got a chance to meet Francsico Lozano from Cengage Learning who gave a session on technology and ELT (wish I hadn't missed his session...). Luis Gerardo Ramirez Amor, one of the best public speakers I know, of Macmillan English led a standing-room-only session on Mind Mapping. Luis Gerardo was the 1st President of the Morelia Chapter of MEXTESOL.

Ivet Rodriguez, owner of Practical English language school, was helping teachers to review voiced and non-voiced sounds in her dynamic task-based TKT Module 1 workshop. Hector Rios from CCH presented a session on TKT Module 2. And to wrap things up, Ellen Graber Litchman from Instituto Angloamericano's Licenciatura and TKT Diplomado Programs had teachers on their toes in the TKT Module 3 workshop. All three presenters offer TKT preparation courses locally in Morelia, with Instituto Angloamericano also offering courses nationwide. Check with each program to see which best meets your professional portfolio and pre-exam needs. Courses vary widely in number of hours, course content & requirements, and qualified certifications awarded upon completion, so something for everybody!

Adan Alberto Hurtado, a lively teacher from Technologico de Monterrey closed the show with an inspirational plenary on how to be the best teacher that you can be. He even found a little time to salsa dance.
