The TKT Cambridge certificates (should you sit for the exam) are considered basic teaching knowledge and would be good to have in your portfolio. However, we are hearing some rumors that SEP may, at some point, require Secondary-level English teachers to have a LIC in English .... but we have also heard on the past that they might require them to at least have TKT.

I have seen a SEP anteproyecto where SEP talks about increasing English teachers credentials by a certain year in the future. But the anteproyecto hasn't been passed into law as far as I know .. and the presidential administration has changed since then.

Some SEP supervisors are telling school administrators that Secondary English teachers need to have LIC soon. And some school administrators have sent letters to teachers telling them that they will not be reemployed if not enrolled in LIC English programs. Many of the teachers at Colegio Motolinia, for example, are now enrolled in the IMCED program.

I don't now the exact picture ..but it would be good to have a LIC anyway of one wants to be a teacher ....
