Good video Frank, thanks for sharing. Anyone know why Prensky particularly doesn't like the word affordances? Regarding the term digital native, I personally don't have a problem using the term if it refers to individuals who have grown up with cert…

High Touch vs High Tech in Schools

This interesting article - High Touch vs High Tech in Schools - discusses how technology and interaction with people requires balance.

Another related article goes so far as to say the loss of human contact is a contributor to the development of Alzheimer'sContinue

Language Exchanges

As we all get geared up for another school year, I would like to extend an invitation to those who are interested in participating in a language exchange for English language learners primarily at the high school and university level. I personally have enjoyed working with those at eTandem and can tell you that ELLs have really demonstrated great progress in their own development of a foreign language (i.e., English). Students develo… Continue

"leading out loud"

I love this technique of sharing called "leading out loud". Although this particular example is within the business sector, imagine how great it would work within the educational system. Administrators, curricularists, teacher leaders, etc. all sharing ideas to current problems in an open and collaborative way. I can already see the initial reaction of some who might think it strange to present questions and thoughts to others without presenting a… Continue

Ben,
I am also interested in relationships. What program are you in?

Hi Ben,
How are you? I started my final course today. I have taken 20 courses in the past 3 years. I still need to beef up my proposal as my mentor says. I have changed my problem statement a few times in the past 2 years. I did try Northwestern at one point but decided on the UOP online. No particular reason. I hope to start my interviews in a few months. I am researching blended learning. How about you?

Funny to read this today .. I have been moaning and complaining all day that the Prodigy service here in Morelia is a joke. It is ADSL which means that uploads are slower than downloads .. but that isn't the real problem. The Mbps rate all morning since 7AM (now 2PM) has been between 1Mbps to 5.5Mbps and the max 11Mbps. A dialup toditocard gives me 30+Mbps. We are paying higher rates than in the USA for communications services from TelMex but getting really bad service. In the USA there would be a legal suit to correct this .. but here .. well!

With Internet in every corner of Mexico .. TelMex is making a fortune by overselling services while not investing in servers and infrastructure enhancements. We are surely not getting what we are paying for.

Hi Ben,

Heard about your audio problems. My guess is infrastructure in Mexico may be causing the problems.

Could you describe the problem ?

Hi Benjamin,

With your interest in Web Technologies, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service.

Benjamin, Thanks, and It was a pleasure meeting you at the session. I had seen you quite a few times about and around the conference facilities before, but you look quite a bit different in person than the profile photo here, so it just didn't click for me. Glad that you enjoyed the session in spite of the technical and other setbacks. I suppose, like you said, that it is a start and that is good. Little by little. --Frank (P.S. my voice is almost back, he he)
