Mexico English Teachers' Alliance

Welcome to META Mexico!

Be sure to sign up for membership and start your own META blog by clicking on "My Page." There you can start your own personal blog for all META members and visitors to enjoy. Be as creative as you like. All English teachers should have their own Web blogs. Why? A few reasons: 1. Many of your students have personal networking blogs; and you need to understand their interests, 2. As a teacher, you have both a personal and professional responsibility to publish and share ideas with other teachers ... this provides an easy way to accomplish that, and 3.) You will use and improve your own English proficiency and writing skills. Oh and on top of all that it is just plain fun to do so.

In Business Week magazine this week (July) there is an article on youth and the Internet. Mexico City is number 25 out of the top 30 cities worldwide with the most blog posting activity. Proof that your students and many others are already there.

Let's do it!

Good point Leigh .. here is a quick workaround that might suffice. Use your e-portfolio address http://metamexico.ning.com/profile/LeighThelmadatter and then move your blog box to the top of the page. That way, your newest blogpost will naturally show first. Not sure if you know it, but you can reposition many of the blocks to other locations on the same page simply by dragging the title bar.

You can also clikc on ALL BLOGS and then choose the blog post that you want to tweet, for example http://metamexico.ning.com/profiles/blogs/to-twit-or-not-to-twit This address shows META and the blog title, no numbers at all. A third option, but not as desirable for tweeting is to call up the page or post that you are interested in then click the "Bookmark & Share" button in the right column ... the select "twitter" to auto send to your twitter status.

But, I agree that the URLs are not very attractive in and of themselves, so perhaps the 1st option is the best. as your own name appears..

I like blogging in META... sort of a built-in audience but my only gripe is that the URL for my blog in a jumble of letters and numbers... nothing like a name or title for the blog. I think thats a turn off for folks outside of META (like when I tweet updates) I also have to go to my blog to get my blog's address! Anyway to modify that Frank?

Thank you, Frank

I hope to be contributing a lot to META. I thought I would share this PDF with all teachers preparing students for Cambridge ESOL's CAE. I will also post it on my own personal blog.

Best wishes,
Mario
